The first ever Usapang Tagak: Student Regent Midterms Report and Public Forum, organized by the University of Makati’s Office of the Student Regent (OSR), was conducted last Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Academic Building 2 and 3 Bridgeway.
The event, as part of the office’s platform, provided updates on its projects such as the Student Leaders Assembly for Evaluation, 2nd Student Council Assembly, Classroom Connection Chain, Tutok Tagak, and “Ano ang OSR?” and recurring concerns being addressed based on feedback and concerns received from the student body during the first term.
Also discussed was the ongoing Student Handbook Amendment, which aims to add and revise provisions in the current student handbook, contributing to the office’s goal in normalizing expressions of student advocacies, coordination, engagement, accountability and transparency towards the student body.
The University of Makati Student Council (USC) Chairperson Mx. Brianne Pasia also highlighted their continuous advocacies, such as “UMakakalikasan,” in active support of UMak’s “Laudato Si” Movement, which focuses on sustainability initiatives, and “Government-Hear ON,” which aims to foster a culture of transparency and direct accountability.
Mx. Pasia expressed plans to conduct the next State of the Herons Address (SOHA) in front of the Administration Building or UMak Oval in order to accommodate all students and be recognized as a protest-wise event. The project is categorized as a collaborative initiative and is expected to be conducted three times throughout the academic year, during the first midterm period, after the first term, and after the second term.
“Kasi ang goal talaga natin dito, maging makamasa at maging makasapubliko [Because our ultimate goal here is to be accessible to the masses and the general public]”, Pasia expressed.
Mx. Pasia also conveyed their concern about being asked personal questions and opinions, saying, “As someone representing four offices, I am really scared na kapag may hindi ako nakapareha ng opinyon sa student body is baka ma-feel nila na I don’t listen to them…” They expressed their opinions to be taken with neutrality and openness.
The event marked the office’s first-ever Usapang Tagak, and its frontline, Mx. Pasia expressed their relief and gratitude for being able to push through with their projects to demonstrate transparency and service to the students.
