USMO Official Statement – Jan. 21, 2026

Greetings in the Name of Media and Veracity!

The University of Makati Student Multimedia Organization (USMO) is the official student publication of the University of Makati. As a journalism-first organization, we deliver accurate, timely, and relevant information through multimedia journalism, guided by the values of press freedom, integrity, truth, and inclusivity. In all our work, we uphold press freedom, integrity, truth, and inclusivity as the core values of our service.

We acknowledge students’ concerns regarding organizational funds and assure the community that all funds are fully accounted for and responsibly managed. Over the years, funds accumulated due to recurring collections and carried-over balances. Since expenditures did not always require the full use of collected funds each term, the remaining balances were carried over, resulting in a large accumulated fund balance.

These are strictly overseen by the Board of Officers, with all expenditures documented, audited, aligned with approved plans, and submitted to the Center for Student Organization and Activities (CSOA) for review.

Most expenditures have been invested in equipment and long-term assets, which are now actively used for campus news coverage, university events, and student-centered activities. Equipment use is planned, logged, and reported to ensure efficiency, longevity, and maximum benefit to the UMak community. Usage aligns with approved work plans and is documented through accomplishment reports. This ensures that investments in equipment translate into sustained service, and long-term value for the UMak community.

Major projects were implemented following research, consultations, surveys, and benchmarking to ensure they address genuine student needs. For example, LED walls may be borrowed for university-wide events, TVs at the HPSB are functional daily, and campus Wi-Fi support is accessible to all students.

As a journalism-first organization, USMO carefully screens requests for support and may decline those that do not align with its mandate or do not broadly benefit the student body. All requests, even those requesting financial support, are thoroughly screened to determine whether they align with the role of USMO, the purpose of its services and equipment, and whether they benefit and impact the student body broadly.

USMO is not affiliated with UC Media, UC Digital News, or UMak Confessions, and any statements, responses, or materials from these platforms do not represent the organization. We firmly refute accusations that such statements and posts represent USMO’s official position. Additionally, Mr. Camille Josh Pabello is no longer affiliated with USMO, having formally resigned.

We have always believed that journalism, at its core, is not submission—it is both resistance and service to the people. USMO remains committed to serving the UMak community through news, film, broadcast, print, and digital initiatives, including Ang Tagak newsletter, Herons’ Flight magazine, UMaksyon news segment, Sinaya Film Productions, cartoons and graphic publications, digital articles, documentaries, and student participation programs like the Letter to EIC and Correspondent Program. Our official publications remain widely accessible in print at the university library, USMO office, and online on all official channels and the USMO website. We have also proudly represented UMak and the student body in journalistic and film competitions, demonstrating our skills and earning awards.

We continue to uphold accountability, transparency, and ethical journalism, and we are prepared to present all records should formal review through the blue ribbon committee of the Student Congress, CSOA, or the Center for Student Formation and Discipline (CSFD) be required.

Service is not always visible, but it is consistent. Every member, volunteer, correspondent, contributor, and committee across our departments collectively carry out their duties with dedication and commitment. We deeply appreciate the students, whose support enables us to grow, improve, and continue producing journalistic outputs for the UMak community. We exist to serve the students and the University of Makati with integrity, transparency, and courage—because truth, sincerely spoken, must always be upheld.
